SPA Alliance
Support FOR students BY students.
SPA Alliance is a Peer Mentoring program that brings together students from different year groups to form one-to-one mentoring relationships. The benefits of getting involved are numerous. By committing a small amount of time to mentoring, students can really get ahead and make the most of their time at FDU.
For mentees, the program provides a great source of support from someone who is a few steps ahead in their student pharmacist career.
For mentors, not only are they providing invaluable assistance to another pharmacy student, they are developing transferable skills, meeting new people and gaining some great experience for their CV.
SPA Alliance is a voluntary program which is flexible, confidential, and fits around the student's availability and preferences. Full training is provided. The program is fully supported by all SoP Faculty Advisors.
Peer mentoring through SPA Alliance is open to students in the FDU Student Pharmacist Association, which is ALL students across all years. P2 and P3 students will have the opportunity to be mentors and all P1 students will benefit as mentees.

Transition Mentoring
Transition mentoring is for new first year students. New student might be new to the area, living away from home for the first time, or returning to education as a mature student. Having the support of a current student, who remembers what it was like for them when they started pharmacy school can help new students to settle in quickly and make the most of their time here.
Transition Mentors would provide their Mentees with support on:
Finding services on campus
Making friends and getting involved with activities
Getting to grips with the University processes
Dealing with the "culture shock" of a new environment
Shopping and budgeting
Finding out about transportation and getting around
Finding things to do and places of interest
Achieving a good life/study balance
Coursework
How to get involved:
For Transition Mentoring before they can begin mentoring mentors are required to attend a training session. Training is fun and interactive and provide all the information needed to get started as a mentor. Formal training sessions will take place early during the Fall semester (during orientation week).
